Maplelu Dog Training Academy – Satellite Centre Information

Level 3 Certificate and Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming through AIM (formally OCN).

With the certificate the learners cover theory in the form of assignments and then the appropriate number of grooms, the learner has to be able to carry out a basic trim according to breed, coat and owners’ requirements – learners must be able to carry out a basic trim on 5 different coat styles across at least 3 different breeds of dog.

With the certificate the learner must complete 180 Guided learning hours and 50 Home study hours. So, 230 hours in total.

With the Diploma the learner will need to complete 330 Guided learning hours, so this is how many hours you have to teach them for, then 70 home learning hours, so a total of 400 hours.

For the diploma they must be able to Groom at least 10 breeds of dogs using 15 different styles.

I would highly recommend that learners who are already working in a dog grooming role study for the Diploma as the practical work required of them is quite a lot.

We as a training provider will give you full support in setting up and making sure you have the correct policies in place to open as an academy.

From the first instance we have a zoom call with your learner to discuss the course and explain what is expected of them. We will enrol them with AIM and complete all the paperwork. We will provide each student with a personalised “Bible” which is a handbook that has all the information in to help them complete their assignments. We will send them out all the assignments which they will send back to us to mark and we will provide them feedback – this means that satellite centres concentrate on the practical and when take care of all the theory side.

We will also provide a first aid course, the theory will be over live zoom and the practical will be completed by yourself, this will include bandaging, taking the pulse and CPR on a stuffed toy. They will have to complete  a first aid assignment, this will give them a canine first aid certificate that is valid for 3 years. Each learner will also be given a first aid booklet to help with the course and keep referring back to when needed.

Once your learner is ready, we will ask that your student completes a full groom from start to finish, you would need to provide video and written evidence throughout this groom but we will support and guide you through this with a spreadsheet talking you through what to do.

That’s about it your end as we have to go through all the evidence, cross reference it to the criteria and then submit it to the IQA for checking. Once this is all done the EQA will randomly pick learners to check, this is only done quarterly. We then upload the learner’s portfolio of work to the AIM and they will produce the learners certificate.
